Canada is committed to taking action to protect civilians and counter ISIL’s barbaric activities and expansionist agenda. On October 7, 2014 the Parliament of Canada passed a motion that will see Canada join coalition efforts to counter ISIL. Canada’s military mission is in addition to the significant humanitarian, development and security assistance that Canada is already contributing to Iraq.
Baltimore 1814 was the scene of one the most important battles in the War of 1812. British naval forces were stopped by the defences at Fort McHenry, Baltimore. The sight of the Star Spangled Banner flying over the Fort on the morning of September 14, 1814 inspired Francis Scott Key to pen the poem that later became the national anthem.
Canada D’eh in the USA! On July 1, as Canadians celebrated Canada Day at home and around the world, the Embassy of Canada in Washington D.C. hosted our own celebration. What is more Canadian than maple syrup? The answer: nothing! Over 700 Embassy contacts, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, Connect2Canada members and staff enjoyed a Calgary-stampede themed pancake breakfast, complete with cowboy hats.
