For over 150 years, Canada has had no closer friend and ally than the United States. At home and abroad, we work together to make our citizens' lives safer and more prosperous.

Each day, approximately 400,000 people and $2 billion in goods and services cross the Canada-U.S. border.

Canada is America’s biggest customer by far, and our economic relationship supports millions of well-paying jobs spread across every Congressional district. Our supply chains and economies are fully integrated

Canada is also the United States’ largest and most secure energy supplier

Our energy infrastructure and commitment to innovation contributes to economic growth on both sides of the border. As we use our resources to power both of our countries, we also share a deep resolve to protect our continent’s natural beauty through sound environmental stewardship.

Canada and the U.S. are also steadfast allies, working together to protect our homelands, while partnering on global peace and security.

We collaborate on law enforcement, including at the border, and share information to track known threats. At home and abroad, Canada’s military men and women serve alongside their U.S. peers, leading in the global fight against terrorism, responding to humanitarian and natural disasters, and protecting vulnerable communities from acts of aggression. There is no better example of our exceptional relationship than the North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD), which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2018.

Canada has fought alongside the U.S. in defence of our common values through World Wars I and II, the Cold War, Korea, Balkans, the Middle East, and Afghanistan.

In fact, Canadian Army, Navy, and Air Force officers are embedded throughout the U.S. military at all levels – protecting and defending our shared continent in search and rescue operations, interdiction of illegal narcotics, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
