Last week, the Embassy of Canada in Washington, DC hosted a concert by renowned Montreal jazz singer Dominique Fils-Aimé. The concert, part of the DC Jazz Festival’s Charles Fishman Embassy Series, promoted two important anniversaries: the 15th Annual DC Jazz Festival and the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal 40th Edition.

Dominique Fils-Aimé’s music is inspired by soul icons of the 40s and the 60s – Billie Holiday, Etta James and Nina Simone.

Dominique performed songs from her albums Nameless and Stay Tuned!. Backed by fellow Canadians Nathan Vanheuverzwijn (keyboard), Danny Trudeau (guitar), and Pascal Lepage (drums), her silky, soulful voice left all guests raving.

The Embassy of Canada thanks the DC Jazz Festival, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, and L’Équipe Spectra for their collaboration to make the evening possible. Much appreciation also goes to Bombardier and the Québec Office in Washington for their generous support of the event.

Please be sure to mark your calendars for June 15th when another Canadian jazz musician, saxophonist Yannick Rieu, will be in Washington to perform pieces by John Coltrane at the DC Jazz Festival at the District Wharf! Both he and Dominique Fils-Aimé will also feature in the lineup of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal from June 27th to July 6th.
