Sonette Magnus, Honorary Consul for St. Louis

Hello from the Show Me State! I was recently appointed by the Government of Canada to be Honorary Consul for the greater St. Louis area. Honorary Consuls serve as a liaison for Canada in states where there is no physical Consulate office. They also represent Canada and promote Canadian interests when interacting with local businesses, chambers of commerce and government officials. Honorary Consuls are an excellent resource for our U.S. partners to learn more about Canada and our priorities and values.

Born in Toronto, my Canadian roots and deep love for the St. Louis community motivate me to enhance our mutual relationship. Being an Honorary Consul is an excellent complement to my “day job” as a partner at Lewis Rice, LLC, where I represent clients in state and federal courts and practice in the Governmental Solutions and Administrative Law Department. My experience includes implementing practical strategies to achieve business results.

As the Honorary Consul in St. Louis, trade between Missouri and Canada takes center stage, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, energy and services. We also share common interests on environmental issues, and I am looking forward to collaborating with local partners and policy makers in these areas. These days, that largely means being “on the Zoom where it happens”, and keeping a constant ear to the ground on issues where Canadian interests are at play.

Canada is Missouri’s largest trading partner, and we share the goal of enhancing shared prosperity and creating jobs. I look forward to helping to make this relationship stronger, and to doing my part to identify and build upon mutually beneficial opportunities.
