What is the Embassy of Canada in Washington doing for Inauguration?
  • On January 20, 2025, the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C is hosting an Inauguration Tailgate and Parade-Viewing Event and Ambassador’s brunch.
  • The Tailgate and Parade-Viewing event will be held outside in the Embassy’s courtyard, as well as inside, in the public area including the Canada Room and theatre. This is the prime viewing location for the inaugural parade which goes past the Embassy on Pennsylvania Avenue. The Ambassador’s brunch will be held on the 6th floor of the Embassy.
Why is the Embassy of Canada hosting an Inauguration event?
  • The Embassy of Canada has hosted an Inauguration event for every incoming President following the Embassy’s move to Pennsylvania Avenue. The first event was held in 1993.
  • Hosting an event at our Embassy gives Canada an excellent opportunity to welcome important guests, further build on our relationships and continue to advance Canada’s interests in the United States.
  • Canada has the only Embassy located between Capitol Hill and the White House, and the only one on the presidential inaugural route. We have a prime parade viewing spot for guests and media.
Who is attending the Embassy’s Inauguration event?
  • The Embassy of Canada is expecting a strong turnout – previous Embassy Inauguration events have seen over 1,800 people attend. Our guests include senior representatives from all fields, including the diplomatic, political, government, non-government and business spheres.
  • Both embassy events are invitation-only.
What are some of the event features you wish to highlight?
  • The Inauguration event will feature Canadian cuisine and beverages, including but not limited to poutine, British Columbia salmon, Canadian beef, and tourtière (meat pie).
  • The Embassy has partnered with a number of Canadian companies to cover the cost of the event. In addition, several other companies are providing in-kind contributions of food and beverage.
  • There is a Jumbo TV outside and numerous flat screens featuring live coverage of the day’s events.
  • The Embassy will have a number of activities and attractions for guests, including a photobooth, a media video wall and discovery app.
  •  The RCMP will be in attendance to showcase the Canada-U.S. security partnership and to interact with guests.
